Girl Scouts of Nassau County Announces 100th Anniversary Gala Honorees

GARDEN CITY, N.Y., Feb. 26, 2019 -- Girl Scouts of Nassau County is celebrating its 100th Anniversary with several planned events over the year, including an Anniversary Gala on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at The Garden City Hotel. This Gala commemorates a century of providing programs and activities to help girls throughout Nassau County become the next generation of leaders. Since 1918/1919, thousands of girls have participated in the Girl Scout one-of-a-kind Leadership Development program. Many who have become female pioneers across business, educational and health care sectors credit their successes with the time they spent as a Girl Scout.

"We could not be more thrilled to celebrate this monumental time in our council's history —100 years of being the top Leadership Empowerment organization for girls' right here in Nassau County," said Randell Bynum, CEO of Girl Scouts of Nassau County. "Girl Scouts was founded over a century ago by Juliette Gordon Low as a place to teach girls to discover, connect and take action in the world.  Today we remain committed to Juliette's legacy and vision, while evolving to address 21st century issues as well."

Girl Scouts of Nassau County is proud to recognize four individuals during the event for their leadership and commitment to Girl Scouts of Nassau County over the years. The four honorees include Melissa Connolly of Hofstra University, who will receive the Go-getter Award; Gloria Baca of Boulevard Home Care will receive the Innovator Award; Cathy O'Reilly of DHL Express will receive the Risk Taker Award; and Anthony Edelman of Bethpage Federal Credit Union will receive the Leader Award.

"The Gala is our first major fundraising event in several years. Given this special occasion, we are really encouraging the Long Island community to come join us in celebrating this milestone and to help us usher in the next 100 years of empowering girls to lead in Nassau County," said Luci Duckson-Bramble, Chief Fund Development Officer. "All our event proceeds will support our Financial Assistance Program that makes Girl Scouting available to every girl in Nassau Countywho wishes to participate, regardless of her family's financial limitations."
