Mags&Munchies and More Program Helps Girl Scouts Learn and Earn

Girl Scouts of Nassau County Learn Business Basics While Giving Back

Garden City, NY (September 21, 2018)—Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) announced today that its annual Mags&Munchies program has officially begun. Each year, Mags&Munchies and More gives Girl Scouts of all ages the opportunity to sell various products including popular magazines, candles, snacks, chocolates and more. This entrepreneurial initiative is intended to help Girl Scouts practice their sales strategies before cookie season and earn rewards at the same time.

“The Mags&Munchies and More program is focused on empowering our Girls Scouts and teaching them strong business skills that will last a lifetime,” said Randell Bynum, CEO of Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “Girls are encouraged to build their entrepreneurial skills, while having an opportunity to earn funds early-on for troop supplies, activities and community service.”

Throughout Mags&Munchies and More season, girls will practice goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics while selling products ranging from snacks, chocolate, magazine subscriptions and keepsakes. This year, Girl Scouts has added more choices for customers to their online offering, including drinkware, candles, and organic veggie plants.

Girl Scouts will continue to collect donations through Mags&Munchies for Project Thank You and Operation Stop Hunger. With Project Thank You, customers can send local military and veterans a subscription to a magazine of their choice. Last year, GSNC troops received 1336 donations for annual magazine subscriptions that were distributed to military personal and aim to exceed that number this year. Through Operation Stop Hunger, customers can also donate $5, and the GSNC will send tasty Mags&Munchies treats to Island Harvest for distribution to local food pantries.
