Girl Scouts of Nassau County Celebrate a Sweet Centennial and Cookie Season

Local Girl Scouts Council Launches Annual Cookie Program during Milestone Year

Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) kicked-off the Girl Scout Cookie Program® on Wednesday, December 19. This year will be extra special for local Girl Scouts as the council is celebrating 100 years of Girl Scouting in Nassau County. To honor the centennial, there will be special events throughout cookie season, as well as added incentives, including a special Centennial Celebration Cookie Challenge patch for girls in troops that receive at minimum 100 boxes worth of donations for Operation Cookie.

“We are celebrating this Girl Scout Cookie® season in a big way!” said Rande Bynum, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “In the spirit of our 100 years, we have many exciting activities and special events planned. We are also challenging our troops to learn new skills, earn new patches and set new goals for themselves throughout the upcoming season!”

During the next three months, Girl Scouts from Nassau County will learn and practice the five valuable skills needed in both life and business: goal setting, decision making, money management, business ethics, and people skills.

“When you buy a box of Girl Scout Cookies, you’re supporting young entrepreneurs—with 100 percent of the proceeds staying in Nassau County to support troop activities, council programs, volunteer training and financial assistance,” added Bynum. “I am so amazed by the young go-getter attitude our girls exemplify during cookie season, setting goals for themselves and surpassing them. They are truly remarkable!”

This will be the fifth season of Digital Cookie®– the first national digital platform that allows girls to sell cookies and learn 21st-century business skills through running their individual e-commerce sites. Girls will have the opportunity to try to earn a new Cookie Tech patch if they meet special criteria through their online sales. Last year, nearly 10 percent of GSNC’s Cookie sales came through the Digital Cookie platform.

Along with the return of the newer and beloved Girl Scout S’mores® cookie— troops will also be selling classic favorites including: Thin Mints®, Samoas®, Do-Si-Dos®, Tagalongs®, Savannah Smiles®, Toffee-tastic® and Trefoils®. All cookies will be sold for $5 per package through traditional paper orders, booth sales and Digital Cookie.

On December 19, Girl Scouts began their individual sales campaigns by taking traditional in-person orders and online orders. Then, in February Girl Scout troops will be selling cookies at booth sales throughout Nassau County. Customers can locate their nearest Girl Scout Cookies booth sale by using the online Girl Scout Cookie locator or by downloading the mobile app. Additionally, orders can be placed through Digital Cookie, a feature which enables customers to pay by a credit card and have cookies shipped directly to their home or donated to Operation Cookie. Operation Cookie sends Girl Scout Cookies to U.S. Military, giving them a sweet taste of home. Over the years, Girl Scouts of Nassau County and their generous shipping partner, DHL Express, have made it easy for customers to donate Girl Scout Cookies to those serving our country.

We’re the Girl Scouts of Nassau County:

We’re 22, 000 strong – almost 17,000 girls and over 5,000 adults who believe in the power of every G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™  from Nassau County to change the world. Our extraordinary journey began more than 100 years ago with the original G.I.R.L., Juliette Gordon “Daisy” Low. On March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia, she organized the very first Girl Scout Troop, and every year since, we’ve honored her vision and legacy, building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. For the last 100 year, we have been the preeminent leadership development organization for girls.  And with programs in Nassau County, across Long Island and throughout the United States and across the globe, Girl Scouts offers every girl a chance to practice a lifetime of leadership, adventure, and success.
