Volunteers Needed for Hispanic Leadership Fund Project!

Dear Friends of GSNC;

Met Life Foundation LogoGirl Scouts of Nassau County was recently awarded a grant from GSUSA, the Hispanic Leadership Fund Project with an implementation period of June 1, 2013 through May 31, 2014. The goal of the Hispanic Leadership Fund Project is to introduce Hispanic middle school girls to Girl Scouting through Programming that will include a mixture of one day events and Series programs that encourage them to explore their leadership potential and provides them with opportunities to make a difference in their communities. Our goal is to reach 300 Hispanic middle school aged girls, that are not currently Girl Scout members and to keep them engaged by offering further opportunities to participate in Girl Scouting through traditional Troops, Series Programs, and Camp.

In order to achieve this important goal we need the help of at least 25 Adult Volunteers, specifically from the Hispanic community that are not currently Girl Scout members. We are seeking college students (must be minimum of 18 years old), professional Hispanic women, mothers and other family members and community partners. We do not expect you to deliver the Girl Scout series pathway on your own; you will receive training, support and direct assistance delivering programs from Girl Scouts of Nassau County staff.

What is your time commitment? We are seeking volunteers that would be willing to help staff deliver a Series program that might consist of a one day program or a 3 week program (after school, evenings), or a 3 week program that occurs during school lunch hours. If you can volunteer for all three types of series, that would be fantastic, only have time to commit 1 hour a week for three weeks? We would appreciate any time you have to volunteer for this worthwhile project. The geographical areas that we have identified include; Hempstead, Freeport, Roosevelt and Westbury.

Please complete the application below if you are willing to help us. If you have any questions, please contact Joan Bompane at (516) 741-2550, ext. 245 or Yari DeLeon at (516) 741-2550, ext. 272.
