ADULT VOLUNTEER AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS
What are Adult Volunteer Awards and Recognitions?
Girl Scouts of Nassau County values all of our volunteers and recognizes the contribution they make in developing girl leaders. We also recognize that there are individuals who provide service to Girl Scouting that is "above and beyond" the expectations of their volunteer position. GSUSA awards and Girl Scouts of Nassau County awards are intended for volunteers such as these that provide exemplary service.
The 2012 Adult Recognitions event will be held on Sunday, March 18th at Long Island University C.W. Post campus in the Hillwood Commons Auditorium from 1:00pm - 4:00pm. The deadline for nominations (other than Outstanding Leader and Outstanding Volunteer) is January 15th.
Who can nominate a volunteer for an award?
All Girl Scout Volunteers, Girl members and / or their families can nominate someone. GSNC staff can also nominate volunteers that they work with.
All of the GSUSA Adult Recognitions Awards are based on nomination and are earned progressively, for example, once a Volunteer or Leader receives the Outstanding Award, they can be nominated for the Appreciation Award.

What does being a Leader mean to me?
" Of course there are times that you want to give up, or it is too much, or you just want to stay home on a Friday night and catch up on laundry, cleaning etc....... but then you get yourself up and go and realize each and every week why you come and stay with it -- it is and always has been "The Girls" and I remember that call umpteen years ago, when I was 4 months pregnant with my son, stating that if I did not step up to be a leader my 4-1/2 year old could not be a Daisy girl scout because there were no leaders and there was not troop for her to enter. As I looked into her eyes and said "yes I will do it", I never thought I would still be looking year after year and still today at 19 girls faces that have moved on to become Ambassadors saying with the same feeling as I did that day for my own daughter "Yes, I will do it".
