It’s a good idea to begin Girl Scout gatherings with an opening activity. Here is a very basic opening:
Girls stand in a circle
Everyone raises right hand, makes the three-fingered Girl Scout sign. Three fingers represent the three parts of the Promise.
Recite the Promise and the Law
Girls share what part of the Promise or Law is most important to them, or what part of the Promise or Law they lived out since the last meeting.
They might say things like;
“When I invited the new girl at school to sit with us at lunch, I was friendly”
“When I helped my Mom get ready for a party, I ‘helped other people’”
“I always bring a no-waste lunch to school, so I use resources wisely and make the world a better place”
The Promise and Law are the ethical foundation of Girl Scouting. Every girl and adult who accepts the Promise and Law and pays the membership dues is a Girl Scout!
