In Girl Scouting, our purpose is to build leadership skills in girls. It’s important to understand girls’ ideas about what leadership means to them.
Generally, girls are not interested in a “front of the room – person in charge” type of leadership.
Instead, they want to work with other girls to accomplish their shared goals.
GSUSA has been conducting research, and the evidence shows that girls are clearly saying that we need to change how we define and think about leadership.
Girls say:
“a leader is someone who brings people together to get things done”
“a leader is someone who stands up for her beliefs and values”
“a leader is someone who tries to change the world for the better”
