Dr. Adrienne O’Brien-Salten has been a dedicated Girl Scout since she rediscovered scouting through her work with Girl Scouts of Nassau County, years after spending a summer as a counselor at Girl Scout Camp.  Since she began working with GSNC, Dr. O’Brien-Salten has become a lifetime member of Girl Scouts, and sees it as her mission to introduce everyone she meets to the world of Girl Scouting.  Dr. Adrienne O'Brien

Former dean of the School of Media and Arts at the New York Institute of Technology and currently a tenured professor of Communication Arts there, Dr. O’Brien-Salten just completed three terms on the GSNC Board of Directors and plans to continue her work with GSNC by supporting both the organization’s governance and direct service programs in a variety of ways.  One of Dr. O’Brien-Salten’s pet projects is GSNC’s Critical Issues Initiative.  Dr. O’Brien-Salten, guiding NYIT’s student-staffed PR agency, assisted GSNC’s efforts at raising community awareness of critical issues affecting girls. Her graduate students researched the impact of female bullying - known as relational aggression - and then helped develop the first printed information used by GSNC in its campaign to combat it. The group also designed a girl-parent friendly website, www.namesdohurt.com on this critical issue.

In addition to Dr. O’Brien-Salten’s work with GSNC, who named her one of the 90 Women for 90 Years, she is committed to many community service organizations.  Recognized as one of Long Island’s Top 50 Women by LI Business News, she served more than ten years with Women on the Job and The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County.  Dr. O’Brien-Salten is a proud recipient of a Life Achievement Award from the Public Relations Professionals of Long Island.

Since 2006, DHL has donated its transportation and logistics expertise to ship more than 41,000 boxes of cookies overseas.  DHL’s commitment to ensuring the cookies reach our service men and women in the Middle East is what makes the success of this program possible.
