--GIRL SCOUTS OF NASSAU COUNTY PLANT 95 TREES AT C.W. POST--

Garden City, NY May 9, 2007 - Since Girl Scouts' inception in 1912, Girl Scouts has encouraged girls everywhere to take a leadership role to improve their communities, discover and appreciate the earth and all of its natural elements and make the world a better place. In honor of that history and the Girl Scouts' 95th Anniversary, Girl Scouts of Nassau County will plant 95 trees at C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, a tribute for 95 years of promoting environmental awareness and civic responsibility!

Join the Girl Scouts of Nassau County as they plant 95 trees at the C. W. Post Campus of Long Island University 's Community Arboretum and "nursery" ( 720 Northern Blvd. , Brookville , NY 11548 ) on Thursday, May 17th at 3:30 p.m. More than 50 Girl Scouts from across Nassau County will help with the tree planting.

"We are so thrilled to commemorate Girl Scouts' 95th Anniversary with a 'Girl Scout Grove,'" says Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director, Girl Scouts of Nassau County. "This is a great way for us to give back to our community, contribute to preserving our environment and do so in a way that future generations will be able to enjoy."

Following in the rich history and tradition of Girl Scouting, Girl Scouts of the USA is joining with The Future of Life Inc. in a nationwide community service project that promotes environmental awareness and civic responsibility. Throughout the Girl Scouts' 95th year, Girl Scouts will plant up to 30,000 trees nationwide, making a significant impact on the environment. This tree-planting project is part of a larger Future of Life initiative called, Trees for the 21st Century.

Five of the trees the Girl Scouts of Nassau County will plant will create a "Girl Scout Grove" and become part of a walking tour that currently exists at C. W. Post Campus of Long Island University. The tribute will be prominently marked with a marker that reads, "Celebrating the 95th Anniversary of Girl Scouting." The remainder of the trees will be planted in a "nursery" and once grown, distributed throughout campus. Girl Scouts of Nassau County plans to return to the "Girl Scout Grove" in 2012 to celebrate Girl Scouts' 100th Anniversary!
