WHAT WILL YOUR DAUGHTER BE DOING THIS SUMMER?
Garden City, NY February 28, 2006 – If you haven’t made
plans for your daughter this summer, consider sending her to Girl Scout
camp before it’s too late. Girl Scouts of Nassau County is still
accepting applications for its Summer Fun Day Camps and Sleep-away
Camp Blue Bay.
The Girl Scouts of Nassau County has three summer programs, which consist
of two day camps in Nassau County and one resident camp in East Hampton.
The camps are open to the general public as well as registered Girl
Scouts (Grades 1-7).
“
Our summer camps offer girls a summer experience that they won’t
get any where else,” said Donna Ceravolo, Chief Executive Officer,
Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “Friendships are formed and memories
will last a lifetime.”
The Summer Fun Day Camps, which are located at Cantiague Park and Wantagh
Park, operate five days a week from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. A typical
day at these camps includes sports, arts & crafts, nature walks,
singing and fun in the pool. On rainy days, girls participate in activities
such as indoor games, crafts, songs and more.
Camp Blue Bay in East Hampton is owned and operated by the Girl Scouts
of Nassau County. It is located on 179 acres of beautiful beachfront
property. The camp offers a variety of learning and challenging experiences.
A typical day includes: sailing, canoeing, kayaking, row boating, swimming,
campfires, singing and more. Girls grades 1 through 11 can participate.
At Camp Blue Bay, girls live in platform tents with cots, four campers
to a tent. There are 10 tents to a unit, which also includes wash-houses
with working toilets and showers. In some programs, campers live indoors
in one of the two troop houses. Whatever they choose, Girl Scout Camp
provides a safe, supervised environment for girls to learn, play, make
friends and have fun all summer long.
Girls can attend all of the camps for a week at a time or for the entire
summer.
Girl Scouts of Nassau County builds girls of courage, confidence, and
character, who make the world a better place. With over 22,000 girl
and 7,000 adult members, Girl Scouts of Nassau County has become the
preeminent organization and leading authority for girls. The organization,
now in its 94th year, continues to strive to serve Every Girl, Everywhere.
