GIRL SCOUTS FIFTH NATIONAL LATINA CONFERENCE TO TAKE PLACE IN NEW YORKGarden City, NY January 10, 2005Today,
Girl Scouts of the USA announced their fifth national Latina
conference to take place in Long Island, NY. In partnership
with Girl Scouts of Nassau County, the organization will welcome
hundreds of girls from across the nation to connect with Latino
culture, community leaders and prominent women mentors. This
year’s National Latina Conference will take place from
July 14-17 at The Long Island Marriott Hotel and will help
girls develop as the future leaders of tomorrow. Issues such as biculturalism and self-esteem to education and decision-making, girls and their families will tackle issues relevant to today’s girl. The conference will end with a full day of cultural events in NYC. "Girl Scouts of the USA is deeply committed to reaching and working with all communities to provide girls with the resources they need to succeed," says Kathy Cloninger, CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA. "The Latina Conference is another way Girl Scouts helps girls develop confidence and character—values they’ll use to make their world a better place." The National Latina Conference was created as a forum for young Latinas to voice their opinions about the issues and challenges they face, and to create a safe place for networking with peers and adults, while celebrating Hispanic culture. “We are honored to have the opportunity to host this year’s National Latina Conference,” says Donna Ceravolo, CEO of Girl Scouts of Nassau County, “This conference is part of Girl Scouts' ongoing commitment to help support girls of all cultures and backgrounds as they grow into adulthood.” The lead sponsor at this year’s conference is Bank of America. “At Bank of America, we believe we can make a difference-not only with financial support, but also by strengthening the fabric of the communities and neighborhoods where we work and live” says Elena Perez, Vice President and Long Island Market Development Manager. “We are happy to support the Girl Scout National Latina Conference and look forward to bringing to life our commitment to local communities and diversity.” Other sponsors include Winthrop University Hospital, Harvest Home Mortgage and HSBC.
