GIRL SCOUTS OF NASSAU COUNTY HOST A HURRICANE-RELIEF FUND RAISING CONCERT WITH A SPECIAL APPEARANCE BY CHICA


Garden City, NY October 18, 2005 – On Monday, October 24 and Tuesday, October 25 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at the Westfield Sunrise Mall in the former Old Navy site, the Girl Scouts of Nassau County will host a fund raising concert to help the victims and their families of Hurricane Katrina and Rita

International recording artists, CHICA will perform. All are welcome and there will be a $5 admissions fee payable at the door.

All the proceeds from this concert will go toward the Girl Scouts Emergency Response Fund. The Girl Scouts of the USA will match all donations and earmark the total contribution to Girl Scouts in the affected areas.

CHICA is an eclectic band consisting of three Latina women, who currently have a new album out which offers diverse music including: Top 40, Latin, Hip Hop and Dance. This is the group’s second album released on the Sought After Entertainment Label.

“ CHICA came to the 5th National Latina Conference in July and was a big hit,” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. “We are excited that they are going to help us with our efforts to raise as much as we can to help the families affected by the Hurricanes.”

“ We would also like to acknowledge the generosity of the Westfield Sunrise Mall in helping us host this concert. The mall management has hosted several events to benefit the victims of Katrina and we appreciate the partnership,” she said.

Following the disaster in New Orleans, the Girl Scouts of the USA National Board of Directors established a Girl Scout Emergency Response Fund with a beginning allocation of $100,000, plus an additional $100,000 in matching dollars (1:1), for the first $100,000 contributed to the fund. The purpose of the fund is to support Girl Scouts and Girl Scout Councils affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and to add those Council who are significantly responding to serve girls who have been resettled in their Councils.
