GIRL SCOUTS TO HELP LONG ISLAND’S HUNGRY

Garden City, NY October 3, 2008 – Everyday more than 259,000 Long Island residents go hungry. The Girl Scouts of Nassau County in partnership with Island Harvest are here to help these families in need. Join them as they try to raise more than 10,000 pounds of food to help feed Long Island’s hungry.

“We’re very happy to work with Island Harvest again this year,” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director, Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “We hope that we will meet and even surpass our 10,000 pound goal.”

Throughout the month the Girl Scouts of Nassau County are coordinating a series of Kids-4-Kids food collections to help make a difference. On Saturday, October 25th troops from across the county will come together to collect the food they have gathered during the month. From 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Girl Scout Service Center in Garden City, Girl Scouts will collect, sort, pack and donate food to Island Harvest, Long Island’s Source Authority on Food Service.

Ms. Ceravolo adds, “Food drives like this show our girls the meaning of giving back to the communities in which they live. By joining forces with Island Harvest we hope that our efforts make a positive difference in the lives of others.”
