REGISTER TODAY FOR THE GIRL SCOUTS OF NASSAU COUNTY ANNUAL LUNCHEON
Garden City, NY August 12, 2008 - Come support the Girl Scouts of Nassau County at their Annual Luncheon on Tuesday, October 28th at the Garden City Hotel from 11:30am to 2:00pm as they honor community leaders that have positively affected Long Island and exemplified the true spirit of Girl Scouting.
“Every year, we look at all of the people that have helped us along the way and shaped the community we live in,” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. “This year, we are so proud to honor two standouts, Dr. Adrienne O’Brien and DHL, for their commitment to the Girl Scouts of Nassau County and the community at large.”
This year, Dr. Adrienne O’Brien of Port Washington, a dedicated lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, will receive the Juliette Low Award of Distinction for her tireless efforts to enrich and give back to Long Island. Dr. O’Brien believes it is her mission to introduce everyone she meets to the world of Girl Scouting. She is the former Dean of the School of Media and Arts at the New York Institute of Technology. She started the Emmy-winning news broadcast, “Long Island News Tonight” which is the oldest, continuously running local cable news program on Long Island. Dr. O’Brien is currently a tenured Professor of Communication Arts. The Long Island Business News recognized Dr. O’Brien as one of Long Island’s Top 50 Women.
In the last three years, DHL has partnered with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County with their “Operation Cookie” program where Girl Scouts all over Nassau County work to sell extra boxes of cookies to be sent to soldiers overseas in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations. This year, DHL will receive the Making a Difference for the Youth of Long Island Award. Earlier this year, DHL picked up and successfully delivered 35,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to the U.S. Military. Over the past three years they have moved more than 77,000 boxes of cookies to our service men and women. DHL is the worlds leading global express delivery and logistics industry. Today, the company’s international network links more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to win an assortment of raffle prizes and listen to a current Gold Award recipient speak about how the Girl Scouts of Nassau County positively affected her life and her future.
