Ashdon Farms Voluntary Recall of Girl Scouts Pistachios Containing Pistachios Recalled by Setton Farms
Garden City, NY, April 9, 2009 - Today Ashdon Farms, Waukesha, WI, announced a voluntary recall involving certain code dates of 7.5 oz Girl Scouts Pistachios packed in pop top cans. This recall is in response to the voluntary recall of pistachios announced by Setton Farms on April 6, 2009 as a result of possible Salmonella contamination.
Product involved in the recall is 7.5 oz Girl Scouts Pistachios packed in pop top cans. Affected product will have a code date beginning with 8264A6, 8266B6, 8297A6, 8297B6 or 8318A6 on the bottom of the can. Only products with these codes are affected. No illnesses have been reported in relation to this product.
Product was distributed by Girl Scout Councils as part of Product Programs. With the exception of product distributed in Northeastern Illinois and Northwestern Indiana in March 2009, all of the product was distributed between October and early December 2008. The 2008 product was distributed by Girl Scout Councils in Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia
“The safety of our loyal customers and supporters is our primary concern,” says Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “We ask them to please refrain from consuming any of this product that may still be in their possession and to contact the recall number for further instructions. Since the distribution of this product, no reported incidents of illness have occurred.”
Salmonella contamination is a serious threat to consumers, especially young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The most common symptoms are fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain within 12 – 72 hours after infection. If a person experiences these symptoms after eating the Girl Scouts Pistachios, they should contact their physician immediately.
