Garden City, NY November 1, 2011 – In 2010, an estimated 285,000 Long Islanders, including nearly 110,000 children, faced the risk of going hungry each day, according to Feeding America, a national hunger relief organization. The Girl Scouts of Nassau County are partnering with Island Harvest to help feed Long Island community members, who suffer from hunger on a daily basis. This year, their goal is to raise more than 5,000 pounds of food that will be donated to Island Harvest.

TWO NASSAU COUNTY GIRL SCOUTS COLLABORATE ON NEW FRANKLIN SQUARE BOOK
Garden City, NY October 10, 2011 – Two Girl Scouts, Kiera Grassi and Hannah Mutum, of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County recently teamed up with Franklin Square’s historian, Paul van Wie, PhD, for their Gold Award project to create a new pictorial history book on Franklin Square. The book titled, “Franklin Square,” is the newest addition to Arcadia Publishing’s popular “Images of America” series and has more than 200 vintage postcards and memories of the past.

At the event Donna Ceravolo, CEO of Girl Scouts of Nassau County Emma presented Emma the Medal of Honor from Girl Scouts of the USA, given for saving a life or attempting to save a life without risk to the candidate’s own life.

Garden City, NY November 5, 2010 – According to Hunger in America 2010: The Local Report for Long Island, each week nearly 65,000 Long Islanders are accessing food pantries, soup kitchens and other emergency feeding programs on Long Island. Because of that, The Girl Scouts of Nassau County in partnership with Island Harvest, Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization, recently raised more than 1,100 pounds of food to make a difference and help feed Long Island’s hungry.

Garden City, NY September 29, 2010 - More than 100 Girl Scouts volunteered their time throughout the summer and into the fall at The Farm in Oyster Bay helping plant seed and plants, weed, stake up tomatoes, and harvest produce. These Girl Scouts of Nassau County learned how to maintain a community organic garden.
