GIRL SCOUTS OF NASSAU COUNTY'S ANNUAL LUNCHEON HONORS STAND-OUT COMMUNITY MEMBERS

Garden City, NY September 7, 2011 – The Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Annual Luncheon on Tuesday, October 26th at the Garden City Hotel from 11:00am to 2:00pm will honor three outstanding members of the Long Island community for their continued support of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County and the positive difference they have made

This year, Cathleen Colvin of Oyster Bay will receive the Juliette Low Award of Distinction, the highest honor in Girl Scouting. Virgin Atlantic Cargo will receive this year’s Making a Difference for the Youth of Long Island Award. And, Cynthia Friedman of Floral Park will receive this year’s Torch Bearer’s Award.

“We are proud to recognize all of our honorees this year and show our gratitude for all they have done and continue to do for our organization and the community at large,” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. “Their hard work and dedication has helped pave the way for future generations of women leaders and has truly made a difference in the lives of girls throughout our county and Council. We can’t thank them enough.”

Cathleen Colvin of Oyster Bay is a strong role model for today’s Girl Scouts. She is not only a corporate lawyer, but also a mother of three and an involved community member. Professionally, Ms. Colvin has worked as a corporate attorney for nearly 20 years, where she has been associated with prestigious firms, such as Shearman & Stearling, LLP, Baker & McKenzie in Santiago, Chile and the Independent Film Channel. Currently, Ms. Colvin is the Assistant General Counsel at Pall Corporation. Within her community, she serves on the Executive Boards of the Oyster Bay Civic Association and Friends of the Bay. She has been a dedicated Girl Scout Leader for the past six years and has brought community service into Pall Corporation by founding the Pall Science and Technology Mentor Program, which opened up new experiences for Girl Scouts.

 

Virgin Atlantic Cargo is a role model for corporate philanthropy. In 2010, their cabin crews and passengers raised almost 1 million dollars for children in need by collecting loose change in their Change for Children Campaign. They also support, “Be the Change,” which works to involve young people in critical issues and empowers them to make a difference in their own lives as well astheir own communities. On Long Island, Virgin Atlantic Cargo supports the Dan Ferrante Golf Outing, which supports Cancer research and youth focused organizations, such as Girl Scouts of Nassau County.

Cynthia Friedman of Floral Park, NY has been a dedicated Girl Scout volunteer for the last 24 years. She has held positions such as event planner, Consultant, Delegate Chair, Acting Chair of Association Volunteers and many more in theFloral Park/Bellerose/Stewart Manor Association. Ms. Friedman is also very involved with Council wide events, including camping programs, travel programs and the Living History Committee, where she helps create displays in the Girl Scouts of Nassau County Service Center windows.

Attendees of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Annual Luncheon will have the opportunity to win an assortment of raffle prizes. In addition, one of the 119 2011 Gold Award recipients will speak to attendees about how the Girl Scouts of Nassau County positively affected her life.
