GIRL SCOUTS OF NASSAU COUNTY AND LIBOR CELEBRATED 100 YEARS OF GIRL SCOUTING WITH 100 TREES

Garden City, NY October 3, 2011 – The Girl Scouts of Nassau County recently kicked off its 100th anniversary by planting 100 trees, donated by the Long Island Board of Realtors, at Camp Blue Bay in East Hampton. The event, “100 Trees for 100 Years of Girl Scouting,” took place on Saturday, September 17th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

With over 200 people in attendance, Girl Scouts of all ages, alumnae, families and friends had the opportunity to not only plant trees, but also participate in outdoor activities, camp tours, lunch and more.

“We were so proud to recognize the Girl Scouts’ 100th birthday by doing something special for the environment,” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “Last summer the storms took a toll at Camp Blue Bay and many trees were lost. The 100 Trees for 100 Years initiative gave us the chance to help rebuild Camp Blue Bay, a camp that has taught our girls lifelong skills and built lasting friendships, and make sure it is available for future generations of Girl Scouts.”

Camp Blue Bay has seen thousands of woman and girls on its grounds since 1947. At camp, girls learn about leadership, teamwork, the environment and friendship.

“The Long Island Board of REALTORS® was honored to sponsor the planting of 100 new trees at Camp Blue Bay over the past weekend, in celebration of the Girl Scouts Centennial,” said Liz English, president of LIBOR. “Like these new trees, we hope that our relationship with the Girl Scouts will keep growing in the years to come. LIBOR is proud to affiliate ourselves with an organization like the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, whose goal is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.”
