GIRL SCOUTS OF NASSAU COUNTY ANNUAL LUNCHEON A SUCCESS
Garden City, NY November 3, 2009 – The 23rd Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Annual Luncheon took place on Tuesday, October 27th at the Garden City Hotel from 11:30am to 2:00pm. More than 300 community leaders, business executives and past and present Girl Scouts joined together to celebrate 98 years of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.
“The Annual Luncheon recognizes all of the accomplishments we have achieved in the past year while honoring standout individuals and businesses dedicated to the future female leaders of our country,” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. “This year, we were thrilled to honor two local standouts, Emily F. Franchina and the Broadway Mall, for their commitment to the Girl Scouts of Nassau County and the betterment of the Long Island community. We were also excited to honor four members of our Living History Committee with the new Torch Bearers Award, which honors outstanding and extended service to our Council.”
Ms. Franchina received the Juliette Low Award of Distinction for her dedication to enrich and give back to Long Island. The Broadway Mall received the Making a Difference for the Youth of Long Island Award for their ongoing Girl Scout and community support. New at this year’s Annual Luncheon, the Girl Scouts of Nassau County honored Barbara Betkowski, Carol Gorst, Jacqueline Hennelly and Nina Pesce of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Living History Committee as Torch Bearers for their tireless efforts in maintaining and sharing the history of Girl Scouts in this area. As part of the celebration their new book A History of Girl Scouts of Nassau County 1918-2008~The First Ninety Years was debuted at the event.
Attendees also had the opportunity to win an assortment of raffle prizes and listen to current Girl Scout, Amanda Lev, speak about how the Girl Scouts of Nassau County positively affected her life.
