GIRL SCOUTS OF NASSAU COUNTY CALL ON COMMUNITY TO SUPPORT OPERATION COOKIE

Garden City, NY June 8, 2010 – On Wednesday, May 26th the Girl Scouts of Nassau County gathered at the Cradle of Aviation amid images and artifacts of past wars to call on the local community and give one final push in support of the Girl Scout Program Operation Cookie.

In and effort to raise funds and awareness for the Operation Cookie Program, the event featured letters and photos from US servicemen and women who received Girl Scout Cookies abroad.

“The Operation Cookie Program has deeply impacted the lives of our servicemen and women overseas,” said Donna Ceravolo. “Our partner DHL has agreed to send a second shipment of cookies, and we hope we can continue to bring a taste of home to our troops, but we can’t do it without the help of our community.”

Sergent Christine DeCaprio and Corporal Clifton Sams both read letters of appreciation while Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director and CEO shared an account from a parent of a soldier who received Cookies.

The first Cookie shipment arrived to military troops overseas in April and the second shipment should arrive by July 4th. The Girl Scouts of Nassau County hope that local businesses, dignitaries and residents will show their support and donate to the cause. The Operation Cookie Program runs through June 15th.
