“Celebrating a 99th birthday is a momentous occasion for the Girl Scouts” said Donna Ceravolo, executive director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “ We hope that you will join us in celebrating by supporting your local troops, volunteering with the Girl Scouts or by donating Cookies to our Operation Cookie program. ”
On March 12, 1912, Juliette Gordon Low brought together 18 girls in Savannah, Georgia to participate in community service and various other activities. Low’s initial goal was to bring girls out of their isolated home environment and give them the opportunity to develop physically, mentally and spiritually.
What Low could not have foreseen was how massively her dream of an all girls’ organization would grow. Ninety-nine years later, there are millions of Girl Scouts and leaders worldwide.
Girl Scouts of Nassau County builds girls of courage, confidence and character. Girl Scouting in Nassau County creates an accepting and nurturing environment, which gives girls a chance to build character and receive skills for success in the real world. With more than 22,000 girl and 7,000 adult members, Girl Scouts of Nassau County has become the preeminent organization and leading authority for girls. The organization, now in its 99th year, continues to make the world a better place one girl at a time.
