SUPPORT THE GIRL SCOUTS OF NASSAU COUNTY
--Sponsor the Annual Luncheon--
Garden City, NY August 17, 2009 – If your company is dedicated to empowering future generations of women leaders then consider sponsoring the Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Annual Luncheon on Tuesday, October 27th at the Garden City Hotel from 11:30am to 2:00pm. Gain exposure for your business while giving back to an organization dedicated to helping girls reach their full potential.
“Our sponsors and supporters are an essential part of our organization,” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. “Without the support from local businesses, organizations and the community, we could not continue to fulfill our mission and serve the more than 22,000 girls in our Council.”
This year, the Girl Scouts of Nassau County will honor Emily F. Franchina and the Broadway Mall for their dedication and support of Girl Scouting and for their positive influence and contributions to Long Island. New this year is the Torch Bearer’s Award which is being presented to Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s own Living History Committee.
Ms. Franchina, a dedicated lifetime Girl Scout of Nassau County, will receive the Juliette Low Award of Distinction for her tireless efforts to enrich and give back to Long Island. Ms. Franchina is an attorney specializing in Elder Law, Wills, Trusts, Estate Planning, and Estate Administration. She also represents adoptive and biological parents in the area of adoption. She is president of the Nassau County Bar Association and serves on many of the organizations committees. Ms. Franchina has been a guest speaker on radio, and has lectured for the National Business Institute, has presented numerous lectures for various community groups and organizations. She has been a supporter of Girl Scouts of Nassau County for several years and served on the Annual Luncheon Committee since 2006.
For the past several years, The Broadway Mall has partnered with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County with their ongoing Girl Scout Cookie Program and GirlFest. This year The Broadway Mall will receive the Making a Difference for the Youth of Long Island Award. The Broadway Mall has been a part of the Hicksville community for more than 50 years. While Broadway Mall boasts more than 50 stores and restaurants, it offers much more to the community and has a reputation for hosting a wide range of family activities including its wonderful community partnership with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County. The Mall has hosted the annual cookie kick-off and cookie booth sales for the past several years and allows the Girl Scouts of Nassau County to hold GirlFest 2008 and 2009 where more than 1000 girls participated in a variety of activities; and the Way to Art exhibit where girls participating in the program displayed their artwork.
New this year at the Annual Luncheon, Girl Scouts of Nassau County will pay tribute to The Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Living History Committee as they honor them as Torch Bearers. This committee met for the first time in 1986 with adult and girl members. The committee was formed to collect, preserve and display objects of an historical nature related to Girl Scouting and members within the Council; to promote interest in and disseminate information about the history of Girl Scouting within the Council; and to provide an opportunity to spotlight the history and accomplishments of individual associations. The committee has been working tirelessly on a Living History book which will be published and available later this year. Girl Scouts of Nassau County salutes the work and contributions of the Living History Committee.
Attendees will have the opportunity to win an assortment of raffle prizes and listen to a current Gold Award recipient speak about how the Girl Scouts of Nassau County positively affected her life.
