“GO FOR THE GREEN” GOLF OUTING RAISES MONIES FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Garden City, NY October 5, 2009 – This year’s 25th Annual Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) ‘Go for the Green’ golf outing on Monday, August 10th at North Hempstead County Club in Port Washington, NY was full of blue skies and scorching hot temperatures! Despite the heat and humidity, participants rose to the occasion and raised a substantial amount of money for the GSNC Financial Assistance Program which makes Girl Scouting available to any girl regardless of her ability to pay.

“We are so grateful for our golfers, sponsors and supporters, especially Jim Adelis, President of Adelis International Security, who came out for a day of golf in support of GSNC,” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director, Girl Scouts of Nassau County. "Their generosity makes it possible for us to better serve the more than 22,000 Girl Scouts in Nassau County.”

The day began with golfers participating in the open driving range and putting green. Brunch was served at 10am followed by a shotgun start and an on-course lunch. After golf was complete, attendees relaxed and networked at the cocktail reception. Many attendees walked away with gifts from raffles prizes and silent auction items.

Proceeds from the golf outing will be used to support the GSNC Financial Assistance Program that works to eliminate financial barriers to Girl Scouts who wish to participate in all aspects of Scouting. Financial aid is available to girls in need to help them purchase uniforms, attend camp, travel, and participate in all Girl Scouting activities.

During the event, guests purchased 10 camperships to help girls go to camp next summer.  Camperships provide the chance for low-income girls to meet peers from outside their immediate community. Camperships are vital in helping girls experience Girl Scouting, while developing leadership skills they will need for the future.

The Girl Scouts of Nassau County also honored Jim Adelis, President of Adelis International Security for his involvement with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County Operation Cookie Program and for supporting the community at large.

The Girl Scouts of Nassau County would like to extend special thanks go to their sponsors: Alure Home Improvements, Cook, Hall & Hyde, Cullen and Dykman, Little Brownie Bakers, QSP and Roslyn Savings Foundation.  Planning is already underway for next year's event.
