SAVE THE DATE FOR THE GIRL SCOUTS OF NASSAU COUNTY’S ANNUAL LUNCHEON

June 22, 2009 – Are you dedicated to empowering future generations of women leaders? If yes, then don’t miss the Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Annual Luncheon on Tuesday, October 27th at the Garden City Hotel from 11:30am to 2:00pm. Join fellow business and community leaders as they gather together in support of helping girls become strong, confident and vibrant adults.

“Our Annual Luncheon is one of our most important events as it allows us the chance to honor community members that have embraced our mission and helped pave the way for girls and Girl Scouting,” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc.  “We are delighted to honor Emily F. Franchina, The Broadway Mall and our Living History Committee for their unconditional support and dedication to Girl Scouting and for all they do to positively affect Long Island.”

Ms. Franchina of Franchina and Giordano PC will receive the Juliette Low Award of Distinction for her tireless efforts to enrich and give back to Long Island. Ms. Franchina is an attorney specializing in Elder Law, Wills, Trusts, Estate Planning, and Estate Administration. She also represents adoptive and biological parents in the area of adoption. She is president of the Nassau County Bar Association and serves on many of the organization’s committees. Ms. Franchina has been a guest speaker on radio, and has lectured for the National Business Institute, has presented numerous lectures for various community groups and organizations. She has been a supporter of Girl Scouts of Nassau County for several years and served on the Annual Luncheon Committee since 2006.

For the past several years, The Broadway Mall has partnered with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County with their ongoing Girl Scout Cookie Program and GirlFest. This year The Broadway Mall will receive the Making a Difference for the Youth of Long Island Award. The Broadway Mall has been a part of the Hicksville community for more than 50 years. While Broadway Mall boasts more than 50 stores and restaurants, it offers much more to the community and has a reputation for hosting a wide range of family activities including its wonderful community partnership with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County. The Mall has hosted the annual cookie kick-off and cookie booth sales for the past several years and allow the Girl Scouts of Nassau County to hold GirlFest 2008 and 2009 where more than 1000 girls participated in a variety of activities; and the Way to Art exhibit where girls participating in the program displayed their artwork.

New this year at the Annual Luncheon, Girl Scouts of Nassau County will pay tribute to The Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Living History Committee as they honor them as Torch Bearers. This committee met for the first time in 1986 with adult and girl members with goals to collect, preserve and display objects of an historical nature related to Girl Scouting and members within the Council; to promote interest in and disseminate information about the history of Girl Scouting within the Council; and to provide an opportunity to spotlight the history and accomplishments of individual associations. The committee has been working tirelessly on a Living History book which will be published and available later this year. Girl Scouts of Nassau County salutes the work and contributions of the Living History Committee.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to win an assortment of prizes and hear a young woman speak about how the Girl Scouts of Nassau County positively affected her life.

Girl Scouts of Nassau County builds girls of courage, confidence and character. Girl Scouting in Nassau County creates an accepting and nurturing environment, which gives girls a chance to build character and receive skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adult volunteers, girls develop qualities that will serve them throughout their lives, like leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. With more than 22,000 girl and 7,000 adult members, Girl Scouts of Nassau County has become the preeminent organization and leading authority for girls. The organization, now in its 97th year, continues to make the world a better place one girl at a time.
