GIRL SCOUT COOKIES® ARE BACK!

Garden City, NY January 6, 2010— It’s Girl Scout Cookie time! Starting January 2nd through March 28th, the long awaited famous Girl Scout Cookies® will be available from your local Girl Scouts or at the Annual Cookie Rally on January 9, 2010 at the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream and the Broadway Mall in Hicksville.

“We are especially excited for the return of Girl Scout Cookie® season and our Cookie Rally event where we will attempt to set a new Guinness Book of World Records for the highest freestanding Cookie tower built entirely of Girl Scout Cookies!” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County.  “We are very grateful to Merritt Engineering Consultants, P.C. for their sponsorship of the Cookie Tower Build.”

The Girl Scouts of Nassau County will be selling eight Cookie varieties, all containing zero grams of trans fat including Lemon Chalet Cremes, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Samoas, Dulce de Leche, Tagalongs, Thin Mints and the newest Cookie, Thank U Berry Munch. The newest Cookie, Thank U Berry Munch, is a way for Cookie customers to give an extra special and memorable “Thank You” to others. The tartness of real Ocean Spray premium cranberries is combined with the sweetness of creamy white fudge chips and the texture of crispy rice gives this hearty cookie a satisfying crunch.

This year’s Cookie Rally at surrounding area malls will also feature the famous Girl Scouts of Nassau County Chorus! The Chorus will treat those patrons buying Cookies to a repertoire of patriotic, American standards and traditional Girl Scout songs. At Roosevelt Field Mall, the Girl Scouts of Nassau County will attempt to break the world record for the highest freestanding Cookie tower. The record currently stands at 5’7” tall. Girls will work in shifts while elected judges will be there to witness and document the build.

In addition to individual Girl Scouts selling Cookies, Booth Sales throughout the county will begin in February. It’s easy to find your Girl Scout Cookies® with our Cookie Booth Locator tool on our website, www.gsnc.org.  Once again we will be offering our patrons the opportunity to purchase Cookies that will be shipped to our military troops overseas through the Girl Scouts of Nassau County program, Operation Cookie. Operation Cookie is done in partnership with global carrier DHL, who sends the Cookies to military personnel in Iraq, Afghanistan and at military hospitals in Germany.  DHL donates all shipping costs as part of their way to thank our troops for their service!

The Girl Scout Cookies Program® is the world's largest Business and Financial literacy program. In the 84 years that the Girl Scouts Cookie Program® has been in existence, it has continuously offered new ways to help girls grow strong. Girls learn important lessons about business, math, organization, sales, money management, negotiation, responsibility and most importantly, self-confidence. The Cookie Program also teaches girls to appreciate and take pride in the work that they've accomplished for themselves and for Girl Scouts. Because of the earning power of the Girl Scout Cookie Program®, no girl is ever turned away from Girl Scouts of Nassau County because of financial need.

Girl Scouts of Nassau County builds girls of courage, confidence and character. Girl Scouting in Nassau County creates an accepting and nurturing environment, which gives girls a chance to build character and receive skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adult volunteers, girls develop qualities that will serve them throughout their lives, like leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. With more than 22,000 girl and 7,000 adult members, Girl Scouts of Nassau County has become the preeminent organization and leading authority for girls. The organization, now in its 98th year, continues to make the world a better place one girl at a time.
