Chorus History:

The Girl Scouts of Nassau County Chorus was formed in 1988. The Chorus is currently compromised of 50 young ladies who travel throughout Nassau County and the surrounding metropolitan area. The girls in the chorus range in Girl Scout age levels from Brownies to Senior Girl Scouts. Their repertoire includes Girl Scout songs, patriotic and holiday themed songs.

The Girl Scouts of Nassau County Chorus is currently under the direction of Catherine Azzara. Catherine is a former girl member of the Chorus, a 2002 Gold Award recipient and Girl Scout Adult Volunteer. Catherine's education and passion for music and her commitment to Girl Scouting makes her a great role model for all the girls in the Chorus.

On February 5, 2006 better known as Super Bowl Sunday, Dove introduced a new commercial that features the Girl Scouts of Nassau County Chorus as the voices behind the images. The Girl Scouts of Nassau County's Chorus performs the background song "True Colors" made popular by performer Cyndi Lauper. The girl images, photo captions and song all tell a story that every viewer needs to hear. Are the standards by which we judge beauty realistic and what are we teaching our girls about self-esteem? This once in a lifetime opportunity for the girls will never be forgotten.

The ad is part of what Dove calls its Campaign for Real Beauty, an ongoing global effort based on debunking conventional beauty stereotypes. The ad also promotes Dove's Self-Esteem Fund, started by the company with a $3 million donation that supports the Girl Scouts' Uniquely Me program. At Girl Scouts of Nassau County, the Uniquely Me program has supported the 5th National Latina Conference, the Ambassadors-on-Call and the other programs that address not only a girl's physical health, but also her emotional health.

Bravo, Bravo!

Were the cheers heard as the Girl Scouts of Nassau County Chorus finished their first appearance at the Long Island Mozart Festival. They appeared at the Festival on Saturday, August 31, 2008 at Old Westbury Gardens, a glorious setting for Beautiful music.

The girls performed 12 news songs including Mozart’s “Kyrie Kanon,” and “Dona Nobis Pacem,” “Simple Gifts,” “Colors of the Wind,” “Shenandoah” and “Edelweiss.” A particular favorite of the audience was “America the Beautiful,” sung by a group of older girls.

Thank you to the 30 girls who performed and to their parents who took time out of their busy summer and Labor Day Weekend to bring their daughters to rehearsals and the Performance. Once again, Bravo!
