Garden City, NY (May 12, 2016) – The Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) recently hosted their 7th annual Girls Go the Distance Walkathon and Activity Fair at Old Bethpage Village Restoration. Over 800 girls, family members, friends and Long Islanders attended the event and enjoyed a fun-filled day outdoors, while participating in health-themed games and program activities.
“This annual event brings our entire Council together and helps us promote healthy living to encourage our girls to live a socially and emotionally healthy lifestyle,” stated Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “We are so thankful to everyone who participated in this wonderful event, along with all of our sponsors, volunteers and donors who made the day possible.”
This year, a scavenger hunt was added to the two-mile walk, incorporating existing historic landmarks from Old Bethpage Village Restoration to serve as clues.
Daisy-to-Ambassador Girl Scouts enjoyed healthy snacks, traditional Indian dancing, decorating T-shirts, and dabbling in GSNC Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) projects during the day’s action-packed activity fair. . All Walkathon proceeds) raised are donated to Girl Scouts Healthy Living Initiatives programming, which encourages Girl Scouts and their communities to integrate aspects of healthy living into their daily lives.

We’re the Girl Scouts of Nassau County: We’re 23,000 strong – 23,000 girls and adults who believe every girl from Nassau County can change the world. It began over 100 years ago with one woman, Juliette Gordon “Daisy” Low, who believed in the power of every girl. Today, we continue her vision of building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place by helping them discover their inner strength, passion and talents. And with programs in Nassau County, across Long Island and throughout the United States, there’s a chance for every girl to do something amazing. We’re the Girl Scouts.
