Family Beyond Bars Act
Girl Scouts of the USA
To be introduced in the 112th Congress
The Girl Scouts Public Policy and Advocacy is excited to announce that Congressman Bobby Rush (D-IL) will soon be reintroducing the Families Beyond Bars Act (FBB). If enacted, the Families Beyond Bars Act would support organizations like Girl Scouts, who provide important programming for crime’s unseen victims. This bill could allow us to expand upon the success of Girl Scouts Beyond Bars and replicate it nationwide.
Healthy Media for Youth Act
Girl Scouts of the USA
To be introduced in the 112th Congress
The Girl Scouts Public Policy and Advocacy is excited to announce that Congresswomen Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) will be reintroducing the Healthy Media for Youth Act (HMYA) this June in the House of Representatives. The Healthy Media for Youth Act takes a three-pronged approach to promote healthy media messages about girls and women. The bill:
1. Creates a competitive grant program to encourage and support media literacy programs and youth empowerment groups.
2. Facilitates research on how depictions of women and girls in the media affect youth.
3. Establishes a National Taskforce on Women and Girls in the Media, which will develop voluntary standards that promote healthy, balanced, and positive images of girls and women in the media for the benefit of all youth.
