Body Confident

The health of our youth is a high priority in the national conversation, although it is often discussed only as it relates to childhood obesity or increasing fitness.  Girl Scouts brings a unique girl perspective to this debate--we know what works for girls.  Our experience and original research tells us that girls define health in their own terms, placing as much emphasis on emotional and social well-being as physical health, nutrition and physical fitness.  Because this is how girls view health, healthy living programs and activities should reflect their broader needs, or else such efforts will not be accepted by girls.

MINNEAPOLIS - One of every 10 to 20 women has battled eating disorders in their lives. New research from the University of Minnesota may shed some light on behavior that could help stop that. Diane Neumark, a professor at the University’s School of Public Health and author of I’m, Like, So Fat! spoke to FOX 9 about what parents could do to avoid eating disorders.

GSNC is committed to ensuring girls can live and grow in a community that inspires confidence, promotes limitless goals, and is truly invested in girl’s healthy living from the inside out.  Body Confident will work with girls helping them to understand, appreciate and nurture their physical, emotional and social well-being.

Looking Good" workshop

Dr.Robert Dell'Amore, physician, chef and nutritionist shared tips and recipes with Girl Scouts at a recent Body Confident event.

Girls sampled nutrient dense foods; low in fat, high in flavor.

"I loved to learn how people make different food"

"My favorite part was when I helped the chef cook."

"I learned ranch dressing is not as healthy on salad as olive oil."

"Serving and preparing my own food, I can control what I put into my food.  The things I put in my food are important in preventing diseases and

memory loss."
