Girl Scouts of Nassau County has operated a day camp at Wantagh Park since 1991. Campers are in units of twenty to twenty five girls, grouped by age. We service between two to three units of campers per week. Typical activities may include sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming, nature, camp craft, cook-outs and more. Working within your unit, you will be helping campers plan the things they like to do. Some activities will be planned to include the entire camp.

What about Training

Staff training is mandatory. It is the time to learn how to do your job. Staff training is given at the Girl Scouts of Nassau County Service Center in Garden City for one evening. The Saturday before camp starts you will be trained at your park site. This will enable you to better understanding your role at camp.

Pre-Camp Training Goals

Policies

Smoking is permitted in designated areas only.

Drugs and Alcohol have no place at camp. Consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors (under 21 years of age) while employed at Camp Blue Bay is prohibited and is grounds for dismissal. Absolutely no alcoholic beverages may be brought into camp and no one may return to camp under the influence.

The use of any controlled substance while employed at Camp Blue Bay is absolutely prohibited. Persons violating this policy will be subject to termination and legal prosecution.

These policies apply to all staff during the entire agreement period-when on duty and during time off.

Can I earn credit for school?

Some schools will give you credit for an internship at camp. We will be glad to help you with the necessary paperwork. And, yes it WILL look good on your resume'. DON'T BE SURPRISED if in future job interviews, you talk more about your camp job than any other job on your resume'. Most business leaders understand and appreciate the challenge and value gained from being a camp counselor. The teamwork, leadership, decision making, problem solving, and communication skills you learn and practice at camp will help you succeed in whatever career you choose.

How do I apply?

Please download the application and three reference forms. Mail the completed application to the address below and distribute the three reference forms to be returned directly to us. After receiving your references, we will contact you to set up an interview in person or by telephone. For the safety of all campers and staff, a background check will be run if you are offered a position.
