Troop Camping

Whether earning badges, working on a Journey or just having fun, Girl Scout Troops have a blast when they go Troop Camping at Camp Blue Bay. Troop Camping is a unique experience planned and carried out by a group of girls and their camp-trained volunteers/leaders. Under the guidance of trained and enthusiastic adults, girls may take their first hike, build their first campfire and sleep under the stars for the first time—so cool! Girls take part in planning of meals and activities, learn outdoor skills and work as a team to enjoy a fun outdoor adventure. These opportunities are available year round and registration is ongoing.

Your troop will help decide what activities they want to do, what they want to eat, and what new skills or adventures they want to try while at camp.

Registration is ongoing by season. Tent units, Troop Houses and Staff Houses are available spring and fall; Troop Houses and Staff Houses are also available in the winter.

Traditional Troop Camping Process toggle arrow

It is simple and easy! Once you have an adult who has completed Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Outdoor Training and you also have an adult trained in Basic First Aid you are ready to get started.

Four easy steps:

Plan with your Girl Scouts when you would like to camp and if you would like a Tent Site or Troop House. Traditional Troop Camping takes place during the winter, spring and fall seasons. Using the Troop/Group Application Processing Dates and Site Availability Charts choose a few date options to apply for.
Apply for a date by utilizing the Troop/Group Overnight Camp Application. This application needs to be completed and signed by the Outdoor/Camp Trained Adult before being submitted. Upload or mail completed form and pay the required $50 Non-refundable deposit to Girl Scouts of Nassau County prior to requested camp date. You will receive a confirmation packet via e-mail once confirmed.
Submit final payment at least one month prior to your camping date.

Adult Training Requirements toggle arrow

Traditional Troop Camping Training Requirements:

An adult who has completed Outdoor Camp Training
An additional adult who is currently certified in First Aid and CPR.

Outdoor Camp Training is good for three years and then participation in a virtual Camp Update is required.

Apply for a Traditional Troop Camping date by utilizing the Troop/Group Overnight Camp Application. This application needs to be completed and signed by the Outdoor/Camp Trained Adult before being submitted. Mail completed form and required $50 Non-refundable deposit to Girl Scouts of Nassau County prior to requested camp date. You will receive a confirmation packet via e-mail once confirmed.

What do each of the units/facilities have?

Tent units: Units have lighted kitchen shelter with tables and benches, a cold water faucet and grills for charcoal cooking. Refrigeration is available in the main area of the camp. The lighted wash house has cold and hot water sinks and showers, along with flush toilets. All platform tents have cots and mattresses, and accommodate 4 people per tent.
Staff House: stove, refrigeration, a fireplace, bathroom facilities, mattresses, hot water and heat.
Port & Starboard: stove, refrigeration, a fireplace, bathroom facilities, cots & mattresses, hot water and heat.

Directions to camp will make your trip a breeze, be sure to park in the correct parking lot for the unit you are staying in.

Front Parking Lot used for Hilltop, Staff House, Innisfree, and Kicoomba.
Back Parking Lot used for Port and Starboard Troop Houses, Romany Wood, and Tally Ho.

On the sports field, your troop will enjoy the Gaga Pit, Nine Square in the Air, and a variety of other sports equipment: volleyball, soccer, basketball, tetherball to name a few, as well as a supply of jump ropes, frisbees, and hula hoops are available for a day of fun and physical activity.

For your convenience, you will find basic First Aid Kits positioned all around the camp: Tent Units, Troop Houses, Activity Building, and Dining Hall.

Badge Workshops at Camp Blue Bay toggle arrow

Are you planning a Traditional Troop Camping Weekend, but have no idea how to fill the time? Consider scheduling a badge workshop to have one of our Blue Bay instructors guide your girls through completing a badge of their choice.

Workshops will take place either Saturday morning or afternoon. The average length of the workshop is three to four hours. Most girls will leave having completed the full badge! Badges are included in the price of the workshop and will be mailed to the leader.

Cost: $12.00 per girl, $120 minimum (10 girls) per workshop

Cooking Set ($25.00 Rental Fee)
Packed in two tubs this set includes: 16, 12 and 10 qt pots, 2 frying pans, 2 cutting boards, 3 mixing bowls, colander, measuring cups and spoons, can & bottle openers, assorted cooking/serving utensils: spatulas, spoons, tongs,& forks etc, and a knife block.

Dish & Silverware Set ($15.00 Rental Fee)
Packed in one tub this set includes: 32 Unbreakable dishes, bowls, mugs, cups, forks, knives, spoons and 2 serving platters.

Beverage Set ($10.00 Rental Fee; Available for Indoors Only)
Packed in one tub this set includes: 12 Cup Mr. Coffee Pot, 40 Cup Urn for Hot Water, and 2 gallon cold beverage jug
